This is an Exquisite All Original Antique 19th. Century Circa 1860 Hand Painted Watercolour on a Wood Engraving of the majestic Rocky Mountains in Alberta Canada. Hand Engraved and watercolour hand painted by an artist by the name of "Pelcoq after Bourgeau".
This piece of art is 166 years old and an original 1860 piece.
It features several First Nation people, a couple horses and a dog across the the Lake De Arc at the foot of a Mountain Stream emptying into the lake. In the background are groups of evergreens traversing up the slope with the expanse of the snow capped Rocky Mountains in the far background.
I believe the lake is called Lake Des Arcs (Lake of the Arcs) in Bow Valley near Canmore Alberta.
Its a lovely truly Canadian scene hand painted and engraved highlighting the Napoleon III period.
Rocky Mountains lake Des Arcs and several other works are From the "Le Tour Du Monde (The Tour Of The World) Series, Paris France... of drawings/sketches by Explorer Eugene Bourgeau" while on his Palliser Expedition.
In the mid to later 1800's Pelcoq hand painted on wood engravings several of Bourgeau's hand drawings sketches.
As mentioned above...this is an original from 1860 making this piece of art around 166 years old!!
The actual wood engraving watercolour painted art piece itself measures around 25cm x 15cm......or Just under 10" x 6". The full outer dimensions including back matte is around 10 3/4" x 14"....or 27cm x 35cm.
