The CX-8 combines timecoding, MIDI, sample configuration and multitracking, making up a unit that became an industry standard in the early 1990's. The CXRD-8 adopted Alesis's S-VHS ADAT format.
The front panel of the CX-8 includes buttons for the following: Format buttons, Gen. Set-up, Power, Chase (on/off), Digital In, Input Monitoring (All, Auto), Data Edit, Home, Next, Up/Down Bank buttons, F1, F2, F3, Vari Speed, Remote Local, LOC, LOC 0, Reset, Record, Stop, Play, Rewind, Fast-Forward, Eject, AUTO REC, Mark In, Mark Out, Cursor, and Display. In addition, digital readout meters complete the astounding front panel.
The rear panel is just as generous as the front panel, with various types of device hookups. The CX-8 gives you 8 analog inputs, as well as 8 analog outputs, as well as 9-pin input/output Syncing, 9-pin Meter Bridge, Video/VITC Input (with 75 ohm on/off switch), Word In, Word Out, MIDI In/Out, Locate/Play and Punch In/Out. Additionally there are two 25-pin +4 dBu Analog jacks, one for outputs and one for inputs, and a 9-pin RS422 jack. There are also two XLR-style jacks for Time Code, a female for Input and a male for Output. and finally, a pair of optical digital I/O's.
